A new study finds fat around your middle may make you eat more.
If your belly is big, it may be trapping you in a dieter’s catch-22:  A new study finds that fat around your middle might make you hungrier, so you eat more and then put on even more belly fat.
Just how bad is belly fat?  In addition to raising your risk of heart disease and diabetes, new research shows that having a round middle in your 40″s almost triples your risk of developing dementia later in life.  And that is true even if you are not otherwise overweight.  The reason may be related to inflammation fat found deep in the belly, called visceral fat, secretes chemicals that cause inflammation related to heart disease and diabetes.  But scientists are not sure exactly how abdominal fat affects the aging brain.
In the meantime, if you are getting thick around the middle, eating a healthy diet packed with fruits, vegetables and whole grains and exercising will help keep you trim.
